Fall and winter months provide ample opportunities for hunting, attending high-school athletic events, plays and musicals, craft fairs, the historic Victorian Festival including Civil War reenactments, Harvest Fest, the Apple Festival, rummage sales, sweetheart dinners and other holiday activities.
The western boundary of Jersey County is home to the confluence of the Illinois and Mississippi Rivers. It is a winter home to over 1,500 wintering bald eagles with over from December through March.
Summer recreation abounds with boating and fishing on either of the two magnificent rivers, swimming and water activities at any of the public and private pools, as well as Raging Rivers Water Park. Pere Marquette State Park, the largest state park in Illinois, provides access to many different hiking trails and is home to a beautiful tree-lined campground for all of your hiking and camping family fun. You can support/participate in the Jersey County Relay for Life, or attend any of the fabulous events at the Jersey County Fair and Parade, such as livestock shows, the talent show, the beauty pageant, truck and tractor pulls, harness racing, the rodeo, Christian music night or the demolition derby. There are tee-ball, baseball, softball and soccer leagues for kids and teens, and plush private and public golf courses just waiting for you. There are community-wide Independence Day festivities, a circus and the State Street Music Festival that are certain to make your summertime rock'in!
If you are a baseball, football or hockey fan Jersey County is only 45 minutes away from professional athletics. Enjoy a game of baseball by watching the world-champion Cardinals from new Busch Stadium or a professional football game from inside the warm confines of the Edward Jones Dome.
These are just a few of the reasons that Jersey County is the perfect place to call home!
